About the album

"Spergy" is Daniel Caesar's dad's nickname, which tells you a lot about where the Oshawa-raised singer's head was at when he made his fourth album. After years of keeping his distance, Caesar reconciled with his parents, and Son of Spergy is the sound of a man working through faith, masculinity and his own sense of self-importance with the gospel-trained voice that made Freudian such a phenomenon.

Longtime collaborator Jordan Evans and Toronto poet-songwriter Mustafa steered the ship as executive producers, with a crowd of contributors (Rex Orange County, Sean Leon and Teo Halm among them) adding texture without ever crowding the room. Bon Iver turns up on the hushed single "Moon," and the rest of it moves at the pace of a Sunday morning: slow, warm and a little bit holy.
