About the album

For most of a decade Dallas Green split his time between Alexisonfire's roar and City and Colour's quieter songs. With Alexisonfire on a break, he gave the solo project a full band, a big sound and a producer to match, and The Hurry and the Harm is the result.

Alex Newport produced, engineered and mixed it and arranged the strings. Matt Chamberlain and James Gadson share the drums, Spencer Cullum Jr. adds pedal steel and Bo Koster plays keys, with Anthony Lamarchina's cello and Karen Winkelmann's violin on the string parts, which gives the songs a warm roots-rock glow. The title track opens things, "Of Space and Time" and "Two Coins" carry the big choruses, "Thirst" kicks hardest, and "Death's Song" closes on a hush.

South of the border it reached No. 16 on the Billboard 200, and by early 2014 it had sold 66,000 copies at home. St. Catharines has produced a fair few singers over the years; this one can apparently do both volumes.
