About the album

Most artists would file a dozen songs from the same sessions under B-sides. Carly Rae Jepsen made them a whole new album, and she had a point. Work on The Loneliest Time (2022), much of it in a home studio she built in an old office at her Los Angeles house, produced more than 65 extra songs, and the brightest of them became The Loveliest Time.

Jepsen said she wanted it to feel like growth and sound like celebration. Rostam Batmanglij produced "After Last Night" and "Shadow" and promised they had BPMs, James Ford handled lead single "Shy Boy" (which borrows a little of Midnight Star's Midas Touch), and Patrik Berger helped shape "Aeroplanes," "Kollage" and "Put It to Rest." "Stadium Love," made with Lewis OfMan, closes things on a big, bouncing high.

It continues a run that began with Emotion: Side B and Dedicated Side B, though the Mission, BC, native sensibly declined to call this one The Loneliest Time Side B. As she put it, that just sounds like a downer, and nobody wants a downer on clear vinyl.
