Why you'll love it

About the album

Dan Snaith had roughly 900 draft ideas when he started on Suddenly, which he then whittled down to twelve finished songs. The Dundas, Ontario native had spent six years since Our Love, and in that time family and friendships became the record's real subject: how they change, drift and come back around.

The sound swings from tender to euphoric without warning, which is rather the point of the title. "Home" flips an old soul sample into a sunny strut, "Never Come Back" is a full-on house rush built for festival fields, "You and I" breaks into a sudden wall of noise, and "Sister" opens the record on a hushed, intimate note. Snaith's voice sits higher in the mix than ever, and Slant called it the thing that makes the album so special.

He named it after his daughter's obsession with the word suddenly, which, as favourite words go, beats asking why every five minutes by a considerable distance.
