Burial: Untrue (2LP) [HYPERDUB]

Why you'll love it

Untrue is one of the most acclaimed electronic albums of the century, a ghostly, deeply atmospheric record built from crackle, rain and chopped-up R&B vocals.

About the album

Working alone with simple software, the anonymous south London producer known as Burial pieced together Untrue from shuffling two-step garage rhythms, deep sub-bass, vinyl hiss and pitch-shifted vocal snippets, creating a sound that feels like a night bus through a rainy city.

"Archangel" is hypnotic and beautiful, "Near Dark" and "Etched Headplate" glide on haunted vocals, and "Shell of Light" and "Untrue" glow with warmth. It was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.
