About the album

Richard D. James made Selected Ambient Works Volume II after leaving the beats of his techno work behind, creating long, slowly unfolding soundscapes inspired by lucid dreaming. Most tracks are untitled, identified only by photographs in the original artwork.

The pieces drift from warm, glowing calm to eerie, mysterious atmospheres, and "#3" (better known as "Rhubarb") is one of the most beautiful pieces of electronic music ever recorded. This 30th anniversary edition adds "Blue Calx" and other tracks that appeared on various pressings over the years.
