About the album

Eat a Peach was meant to be the studio follow-up to At Fillmore East. Then on October 29, 1971, Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in Macon, and the album became the last to feature him, a mix of sessions he played on and songs the band finished without him.

Tom Dowd produced at Criteria Studios in Miami, and the live tracks come from the band's 1971 Fillmore East shows, including a half-hour jam that spreads across two full sides. Gregg sings his brother's favourite song, "Melissa," Dickey Betts' "Blue Sky" became a classic rock radio staple, "Les Brers In A Minor" is a fiery instrumental, and Duane signs off with the gentle acoustic "Little Martha."

The title comes from Duane's remark that every time he was in Georgia he ate a peach for peace, and W. David Powell and J. F. Holmes painted the peach truck and the mural of mushrooms and fairies inside. Fruit-based album titles rarely age this well.
