About the album

Aesop Rock's tenth solo album came with its own free video game, Black Hole Superette Experience on Steam, in which you wander the aisles of a fictional convenience store. The record is just as well stocked. He produced every beat himself, building them around Asher Fulero's keyboards and Forest Pond's cuts, with Joey Raia mixing and Joe LaPorta mastering. It arrived in May 2025 on Rhymesayers, his longtime home.

The guest list leans on old friends and kindred spirits. Slug drops into "Checkers" and "EWR - Terminal A, Gate 20" with Rob Sonic, Billy Woods and Elucid of Armand Hammer share "1010WINS," Open Mike Eagle turns up on "So Be It," and Lupe Fiasco and Homeboy Sandman trade verses on "Charlie Horse." Yo La Tengo's James McNew plays bass on "Ice Sold Here," Farnell Newton adds horns to "Movie Night," and Hanni El Khatib joins the closer, "Unbelievable Shenanigans."

It's dense, funny and wonderfully specific, the kind of record that rewards a lyric sheet and a second listen. We've tried to run a shop this well stocked, but nobody has yet asked us for Himalayan yak chew.
