About the album

Zach Bryan was still serving in the Navy when Elisabeth appeared on streaming in May 2020. He made it on a laptop in a horse barn behind his house, with the friends who had made DeAnn and Leo Alba producing. The songs carry that room with them: guitar, a kick drum and an out-of-tune piano he got free on Facebook, with friends leaning in on the harmonies. He shot the "Heading South" video on a phone in his barracks.

The LP found its second life as his audience grew, reaching No. 76 on the Billboard 200 and No. 49 in Canada. Saving Country Music said lightning had struck twice after DeAnn. Six years on, the record still feels close and unvarnished.
