About the album

1964 was a landmark year for Wayne Shorter. He started it in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, made his Blue Note solo debut with Night Dreamer in the spring, and joined the Miles Davis Quintet that summer. In August he returned to Rudy Van Gelder's studio to record JuJu with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Elvin Jones.

The title track is hypnotic and swirling, "Deluge" and "House of Jade" are moody and beautiful, and "Yes or No" swings with fire. This Classic Vinyl edition is mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
