Evermore, Taylor Swift's "surprise" sequel to 2022's Folklore, works as a rustic companion piece to its hit "sister album."
With nothing much to do during COVID-19 lockdown, the endlessly prolific Taylor Swift managed to crank out two separate and highly accomplished albums in less than six months in 2022.
Evermore appeared out of nowhere as a "surprise" release in late December, hot on the heels of its acclaimed and hugely successful "sister album" Folklore from the previous July. The records are of a similarly pensive, intimate and folk-y nature, which shouldn't come as a surprise since they were generally recorded with the same cast of characters -- including the National's Aaron and Bryce Dessner and go-to Swift producer Jack Antonoff -- at Aaron Dessner's Long Pond Studio in the Hudson Valley. Evermore promptly became Swift's second Billboard No. 1 album of 2022, while "Willow" followed Folklore's "Cardigan" to the top of the singles chart. Evermore went on to sell a million copies worldwide in a week at a time when people weren't supposed to be buying music anymore. Tell that to Taylor.
