About the album

Recorded mainly in March 1957 for Prestige with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor, the album finds Garland exploring blues and standards with a light, sparkling right hand and rich, chiming chords.

Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone to Love" is soulful and slow, "Stompin' at the Savoy" swings brightly, "If I Were a Bell" bounces, and "The Very Thought of You" and "But Not for Me" are lovely.

A perfect introduction to the Miles Davis Quintet's pianist. Red, very much the colour of the day.
