Ozzy Osbourne's 1983 third solo album Bark at the Moon in a 40th anniversary edition with a poster: the title track, "So Tired" and "Rock 'N' Roll Rebel."
This 40th anniversary edition comes with a poster and a lyric inner sleeve. Bark at the Moon went gold within weeks of coming out, reached No. 19 on the Billboard album chart and had sold over 3 million copies in the US by 2000.
New guitarist, new drummer, same Prince of Darkness. For his third solo record Ozzy Osbourne brought in a young Jake E. Lee on guitar and Tommy Aldridge on drums, with Bob Daisley on bass and Don Airey on keyboards, and posed for the cover in full werewolf make-up under a full moon, which set the tone nicely.
Max Norman co-produced and engineered. The title track gallops in on one of the decade's great metal riffs, "You're No Different" turns moody and reflective, "Rock 'N' Roll Rebel" is pure defiance, and "So Tired" swaps the snarl for strings and a big, heartfelt ballad. "Centre Of Eternity" opens side B with a church-organ fanfare before the guitars kick the door in. The record leans into a bigger, glossier mid-80s metal sound while keeping the horror-movie theatre that made Ozzy a legend.
It was Lee's first album with Ozzy, and his flashy, melodic playing set the template for the next few years. Forty-odd years on, the cover still frightens small children in our racks, which we count as excellent customer engagement.
