About the album

Most greatest hits albums run forwards. This one starts at the end, with "Fake Your Death," the last song the band finished, written for a planned fifth album, then rewinds to the scrappy New Jersey band of 2002 and works its way back up through all four studio albums. Gerard Way designed the cover himself: a crumbling Black Parade statue surrounded by keepsakes from every era.

The early Eyeball Records songs ("Vampires Will Never Hurt You," "Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough For The Two Of Us") are raw and frantic. Then come the Three Cheers singles "Helena," "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "The Ghost Of You," the full-tilt theatre of "Welcome To The Black Parade," "Famous Last Words" and "Teenagers," and the neon Danger Days era with "Na Na Na" and "Sing." Side D closes with three demos from the attic, "Skylines And Turnstiles," "Knives/ Sorrow" and "Cubicles," a peek at where it all began.

The band have since reunited and toured to enormous crowds, which makes this less of a farewell and more of a very thorough rehearsal. Four sides, one marching band, no skipping.
