Metallica's 1983 debut that kick-started thrash metal: "Seek & Destroy," "Whiplash," "Motorbreath" and "The Four Horsemen."
Kill 'Em All is where thrash metal began. Recorded on a shoestring for Megaforce, it went triple platinum and still opens just about every Metallica fan's journey.
James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton were barely out of their teens when they drove across the country to record their debut, and the energy is ferocious. Faster and heavier than anything else around in 1983, Kill 'Em All blended the riffs of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with punk-rock speed and launched a whole genre.
"Seek & Destroy" and "Whiplash" are still live staples, "The Four Horsemen" and "Motorbreath" are pure adrenaline, and Cliff Burton's "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" is a legendary bass showcase.
Four young men, one long drive and a great many riffs. Fasten your seatbelt.
