About the album

Recorded in a single session on December 9, 1964, at Rudy Van Gelder's studio, A Love Supreme captures John Coltrane with his legendary quartet: McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. Coltrane conceived it as a spiritual offering, a four-part expression of gratitude.

"Acknowledgement" opens with a gong and builds to the famous chanted four-note motif, "Resolution" and "Pursuance" burn with intensity, and "Psalm" closes with Coltrane's saxophone reciting his own devotional poem. The Acoustic Sounds Series brings it to vinyl at its very best.
