George Ezra's 2014 debut Wanted On Voyage as an LP+CD set, an EU import, with "Budapest," "Cassy O'" and "Blame It On Me."
This import pairs the LP with the album on CD, in a gatefold jacket with a printed lyric inner sleeve. Wanted On Voyage went to No. 1 in the UK and was the country's third best-selling album of 2014.
George Ezra moved to Bristol at 18 to study songwriting, and it's fair to say the course paid for itself. Born in Hertford in 1993, he played the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in June 2013, put out the EPs Did You Hear the Rain? and Cassy O', picked up steady BBC Radio 1 airplay, and finished fifth in the BBC Sound of 2014 poll before this album arrived that June.
"Budapest" was the song that opened the doors, a hit across Europe that reached No. 6 and went platinum in Italy. Around it sit the bright "Blame It On Me," the travelling "Barcelona," "Listen To The Man," "Cassy O'" and the brooding "Did You Hear The Rain?" Cam Blackwood produced, with Joel Pott adding production, and Ezra had already sharpened the songs opening for Lianne La Havas, Bastille, Sam Smith and Tom Odell.
By December 2014 it had sold 678,156 copies in the UK, and that August he'd opened for Robert Plant at the Glastonbury Extravaganza. Supporting Robert Plant at 21 is what's known in the trade as a decent summer job.
