Gary Moore's 1990 blues breakthrough Still Got the Blues, with guests Albert King and Albert Collins and the aching, string-laden title track.
This Virgin reissue comes with a download card and hand-etched runouts. Still Got the Blues became Moore's biggest album in the US, reaching No. 83 on the Billboard 200 and going gold, and the title track gave him a Hot 100 single.
After years as a hard rock guitar hero with Thin Lizzy, Colosseum II and his own bands, Gary Moore turned around and plugged straight into the electric blues. He dedicated the record to Peter Green, his early hero, and played every note like it mattered.
Albert King trades licks with him on "Oh Pretty Woman," Albert Collins brings his icy Telecaster to "Too Tired," and Moore tears through Jimmy Rogers' "Walking by Myself." "Moving On" and "Texas Strut" swagger, "Midnight Blues" smoulders, and the title track, with a string section and Nicky Hopkins on piano, is a slow-burning ballad built around one of his most famous solos. Don Airey's Hammond and Thin Lizzy's Brian Downey turn up on "Texas Strut," while Andy Pyle and Graham Walker hold down most of the rhythm section.
Moore co-produced with Ian Taylor, and the album put Albert King and Albert Collins in front of a whole new rock audience. That title track solo has been attempted in more guitar shops than we can count, including, on slow afternoons, this one.
