About the album

The Memphis collection celebrates Elvis Presley's deep connection to the city that shaped him, where he crafted some of the most defining moments of his career. Featuring newly mixed versions of his classic tracks, free of overdubs, it offers an unfiltered look at his raw, electrifying sound. It spans his early years at Sun Records in the mid-1950s, where he fused blues, country and gospel to help create rock 'n' roll, then moves to his pivotal 1969 sessions at American Studios, where he reignited his career with hits like "Suspicious Minds" and "In the Ghetto" after years of making movies.

His time at Stax in the early 1970s shows his continued evolution, blending rock, soul and R&B as he matured as an artist, on songs like "Raised on Rock" and "If You Talk in Your Sleep." Rounding out the collection are a live "How Great Thou Art" from his triumphant 1974 hometown show at the Mid-South Coliseum and his final recordings at Graceland, including "Hurt" and "Danny Boy," made shortly before his death in 1977.

The album captures Memphis as the heartbeat of Elvis's artistry, chronicling his journey from a young visionary to a cultural icon. He never really left town, and judging by the queues outside Graceland, neither has anyone else.
