Dire Straits' 1991 album On Every Street, remastered as a 2LP set on 180g vinyl, with "Calling Elvis" and "Heavy Fuel."
This 2LP set is remastered and pressed on 180g vinyl. On Every Street went to No. 1 in the UK and numerous European countries, reached No. 12 in the US and went platinum there.
Six years is a long time to leave people waiting after Brothers in Arms, but Mark Knopfler was never one to hurry. When Dire Straits returned in 1991, they did it with a richer, rootsier sound and a band of ace session players around the core of Knopfler, John Illsley, Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher.
Toto's Jeff Porcaro plays drums, Paul Franklin adds pedal steel, and Phil Palmer, Chris White and Danny Cummings fill out the sound. "Calling Elvis" opens with a train-rhythm shuffle, the title track is a slow, cinematic search through city streets, "Heavy Fuel" stomps, and "Iron Hand" is a quietly powerful ballad. "The Bug," "Ticket to Heaven" and "How Long" lean into country and Americana, and Knopfler and the band produced it all themselves. "When It Comes to You" and "You and Your Friend" give Knopfler's guitar plenty of room to sing.
The world tour that followed ran 14 months, played 216 shows and sold 7.1 million tickets, and the Nîmes and Rotterdam dates became the live album On the Night. That's a lot of people, and presumably a lot of headbands.
