Toronto's own MICO came home to sign copies of his debut album at our Danforth store. Available in store only, not online. Copies are limited, get them while you can!
Signed
Every copy was signed by MICO when the Toronto singer came home to Kops Danforth on November 7, the day of his second hometown show. When the lights turn on is his debut album on Columbia, a big-hearted, hook-loaded record for anyone who grew up on 2000s pop-punk and never quite let go, and for the new crowd who found him online.
These signed copies are in-store only, so come down to Kops and grab one in person before they're gone. Ask at the counter and we'll set you up. Please note we can't hold copies, it's first come, first served.
MICO did things the internet way. The Toronto singer built his following one Discord server and TikTok clip at a time, putting out his own songs until his 2024 EP, Internet hometown hero, more or less named the phenomenon out loud. When the lights turn on, his first full-length (and his first for Columbia), is the sound of someone settling in for the long haul: ten songs in 28 minutes, each built around a chorus you'll be singing by the second listen.
The palette is wider than the EP's. “Do it all again” has the bounce of the pop-punk he grew up on, “Open up your eyes” drifts into shimmering synth haze, “DREAMBOY” goes full strobe-lit hyperpop and “Learning to love” slows right down at the piano. The standout might be “OH!”, a breathless rundown of life as a pop star on the rise. Underneath it all runs a story about outgrowing the people and places that made you, which is exactly why it lands so hard with his fans, the amicos.
It's a warm, unguarded debut from a hometown hero, and it sounds even better with his signature on it.
“The melodies and lyrics are as tender as they are heart-wrenching”
