About the album

Dan Snaith had spent years making records by himself in a studio, and after the breakthrough of Swim he wanted to make one that was generous, one for everybody. The Dundas, Ontario native made his fourth album as Caribou warmer and more personal, writing about the love in his life, from his friends to his newborn daughter. Merge put it out in North America in October 2014, after "Can't Do Without You" had been made available free online that June.

"Can't Do Without You" loops a single vocal phrase into a euphoric rush, "Our Love" lifts off into full house music, and "Second Chance" features fellow Ontarian Jessy Lanza on vocals. Toronto's Owen Pallett adds violin and viola, and touches of R&B and hip hop sit neatly inside Snaith's lush, patient production, mixed by David Wrench and mastered by Bo Kondren.

The Guardian and Consequence of Sound both ranked it fifth among the albums of 2014, and it reached No. 8 in the UK. Snaith also holds a PhD in mathematics, so if the grooves feel precisely calculated, they very probably were.
