Broken Social Scene's 2010 album Forgiveness Rock Record as a 2LP set on 180g vinyl, with "World Sick," "Forced To Love" and "Sentimental X's."
This Canadian-pressed 2LP set comes on 180g vinyl in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves and a download code. It's the Toronto collective's fourth album, recorded in Chicago with Tortoise's John McEntire.
Broken Social Scene have always been less a band than a very good party with a rotating guest list. For their fourth album, Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning took the core crew to John McEntire's Soma studio in Chicago, then gathered the rest by post and plane, with extra sessions in Toronto, Emily Haines cutting her vocal at Electric Lady in New York, and Pavement's Spiral Stairs recording his part in Seattle.
"World Sick" opens the record with a slow-building seven-minute swell, and "Forced To Love" and "Texico B***hes" are as close as the collective gets to tight, punchy rock songs. "All To All" floats on Lisa Lobsinger's voice and a glossy synth pulse, Haines brings her cool to "Sentimental X's" alongside Amy Millan and Feist, and "Meet Me In The Basement" is a wordless, horn-fed rush that sounds like the whole gang charging down the stairs at once.
McEntire's clean, spacious production lets every layer breathe, and Andrew Whiteman, Charles Spearin and Justin Peroff keep the engine running underneath. They're a Toronto band and practically neighbours, so we feel entitled to play our copy slightly louder than strictly necessary.
