The Brides Of Funkenstein's 1978 debut joins Rhino's Reserve line for RSD Black Friday. George Clinton produced it, Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell play on it, and Dawn Silva and Lynn Mabry won 1979 Record World Awards for Best New Female Artists on the strength of "Disco To Go."
George Clinton built the Brides Of Funkenstein around singers Dawn Silva and Lynn Mabry. Funk Or Walk mixes funk, disco and soul in the futuristic P-Funk style, carried by their strong lead vocals.
"Disco To Go," written with Bootsy Collins, became the hit, and "War Ship Touchante" followed it as a single. With Bernie Worrell, Michael Hampton and Garry Shider in the band, it stands among the best female-led records of the P-Funk era.
