Billie Marten's 2025 fifth album Dog Eared on deep ocean coloured vinyl, an indie store exclusive with a double-sided poster.
This indie exclusive comes on deep ocean coloured vinyl with a double-sided poster. Dog Eared went to No. 1 on the UK Folk Albums chart and scored 88 out of 100 on Metacritic.
The title comes from the way Billie Marten treats her favourite novels: underlined, annotated, corners folded down. It suits a record that feels well thumbed in the best way, warm and lived-in from the first listen.
The North Yorkshire songwriter made it in Brooklyn at Sugar Mountain studio with producer Phil Weinrobe, who asked for live takes, intuition and no headphones. Shahzad Ismaily, Mauro Refosco, Núria Graham and Sam Amidon (on fiddle for "Swing") are among the players. "Feeling" looks back at childhood, "Leap Year" was inspired by a fleeting love, "Crown" was the first taste and "Clover" was co-written with Willie J Healey.
Daniel Borgonovi painted the cover after hearing the album, showing Marten without eyes, a nod to how much of it runs on sound and instinct. For "Swing" she aimed somewhere between Meat Puppets and The Breeders, a sentence nobody expected to type about a folk record, ourselves included.
