Explorations is the second and final studio album by Bill Evans' legendary trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian, and many fans consider it their finest. Telepathic interplay from start to finish.
Recorded in February 1961, Explorations finds the Bill Evans Trio at the peak of their powers: Evans' lyrical, impressionistic piano, Scott LaFaro's melodic, conversational bass and Paul Motian's subtle, swinging brushwork all weaving together as one.
"Israel" opens with energy, "Nardis" (a Miles Davis tune Evans made his own) is mesmerizing, "Elsa" and "Haunted Heart" are gorgeous ballads, and "Beautiful Love" swings beautifully. A cornerstone of any jazz collection.
