Arcade Fire's 2013 double album Reflektor as a 180g 2LP set in a light-reflecting gatefold, with "Reflektor," "Afterlife" and "Here Comes the Night Time."
This 180g 2LP set keeps the original's light-reflecting gatefold and two printed inner sleeves. Pitchfork put Reflektor on its list of the 100 best albums of the decade so far in 2014.
Some bands find a new sound by changing producers. Arcade Fire found theirs on a trip to Haiti, Régine Chassagne's family homeland, where Win Butler heard rara music and came home rethinking everything. The Montreal band then recorded between Louisiana, Jamaica and Montreal with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, longtime producer Markus Dravs and themselves at the desk.
The result is a dance record with an indie rock heart. The title track is a seven-minute disco epic with a cameo from David Bowie, "Here Comes the Night Time" bursts into carnival rhythms, "Afterlife" is a soaring, aching anthem, and the twin songs "Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice)" and "It's Never Over (Hey Orpheus)" retell the Orpheus myth by way of the 1959 film Black Orpheus.
Before it came out, the band teased it with a guerrilla campaign of painted symbols and a single credited to a fictional group called The Reflektors. It is, we feel, the politest possible way to sneak a band past its own fans.
