For the first time, all seven of the band's singles from May 1966 to January 1969 sit together on one LP, both sides of each, in mono. You're Gonna Miss Me, the opener, reached No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966.
The 13th Floor Elevators came together in Austin, Texas in December 1965 around Roky Erickson's voice and songs, Stacy Sutherland's lead guitar and Tommy Hall's lyrics. Hall also played the electric jug, singing runs into a clay whiskey jug to give the band its eerie, echoing signature.
Singles carried the story. You're Gonna Miss Me first appeared on the Contact label before International Artists picked it up; Reverberation (Doubt), I've Got Levitation and Slip Inside This House followed, and the run ended with Livin' On in 1969. Their place on the 1972 Nuggets compilation later marked them as forerunners of punk, and R.E.M. and Primal Scream have both cited them.
"The 13th Floor Elevators were trailblazers in the psychedelic rock scene."
