Yellow Magic Orchestra is the debut studio album by the Japanese electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra. Originally released in Japan by Alfa Records in 1978, it was later issued internationally by A&M Records in Europe and North America in early 1979. The international edition featured different cover art and omitted the closing track “Acrobat.” Both versions were later reissued together as a double album in 2003.

The album was an important early example of synth-pop and helped establish Yellow Magic Orchestra as pioneers of electronic music. Its innovative use of synthesizers, the Roland MC-8 Microcomposer, and sampled video game sounds helped shape the development of genres including electro, hip hop, techno, and later forms of electronic music.

The album was a commercial success, selling around 250,000 copies in Japan and charting in the United States. Its most successful single, “Computer Game / Firecracker,” sold more than 400,000 copies in the US and reached the UK top 20. With its combination of futuristic electronics, pop melodies, and playful computer-inspired sounds, the album became a landmark in the development of electronic and synth-driven music.
