Super Ape is a dub studio album written, produced, and engineered by Lee "Scratch" Perry, and credited to his studio band, the Upsetters.
In Jamaica, the record was released in July 1976 under the title Scratch the Super Ape on Perry’s own Upsetter label. This Jamaican edition featured a different track sequence from the international release, which followed in August 1976 through Island Records.
The album was later recognized in the 1999 publication The Rough Guide: Reggae: 100 Essential CDs.
