Signed by the band in store at Kops Queen before their Toronto show at Sneaky Dee’s. Copies are limited, get them while you can!
We were lucky enough to have London-based indie rock duo Tommy Lefroy come into the store and sign copies of their debut full-length album, The Precariat. Produced by the uber-talented Mike Crossey, known for his groundbreaking work with Arctic Monkeys, The 1975 and MUNA, it's an album filled with cultural critiques and indie rock anthems, for fans of both '70s singer-songwriters and modern pop stars.
Wynter Bethel and Tessa Mouzourakis, who grew up in Vancouver, met in Nashville in 2017 as young songwriters. Bethel found Mouzourakis through her online cover of boygenius's "Ketchum, ID," and they started writing together the next year, naming the band after Thomas Langlois Lefroy, the Irishman thought to have inspired Mr. Darcy. "The Cause" took off on TikTok, the Flight Risk EP followed in 2021, and in 2023 they earned a Juno nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year.
The Precariat took six years to write, across Nashville, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Michigan and London. The title is an economic term for the growing number of people living with constant instability, and the songs draw on Virginia Woolf, tradwives, suffragettes and Springsteen's complicated patriotism. The band co-produced the record with Stephen Sesso. Lead single "Thief" is one of the first songs they ever wrote together.
"The song always felt special to us, like a thesis of how we felt in our early twenties."
