About the album

Recorded in July 1955 with bassist Oscar Pettiford and drummer Kenny Clarke, this trio session finds Thelonious Monk reimagining eight Ellington classics with his angular harmonies, playful rhythms and unmistakable sense of space.

"It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" bounces with wit, "Caravan" rolls along, and "Mood Indigo," "Sophisticated Lady" and "Solitude" are gorgeous, unhurried reflections. A perfect meeting of two jazz giants.
