Lou Reed's breakout solo album post-Velvet Underground made a new statement in art rock

In stock

Lou Reed released Transformer a few years after his departure from The Velvet Underground, and with it turned a new page in rock and roll. Reed's high-concept art rock roots are visible here (the idea for the opening track, "Vicious," was supplied by Andy Warhol), but he also delves deep into glam irony on songs like "Andy's Chest," "Perfect Day" and others, splicing catchy, powerful pop melodies with strange, surreal, sometimes humorous lyrics ("Cause you know what they say about honey bears / When you shave off all their baby hair / You have a hairy minded pink bare bear"). "Walk on the Wild Side," the mega-hit of the album and of Reed's career, stands out for its earworm bass riff and groundbreakingly direct treatment of sex and queer themes.
