Mother Mother's 2008 second album O My Heart, pressed in transparent red with black, with "Hayloft," "Arms Tonite" and "Wrecking Ball."
This limited repress comes in transparent red with black. O My Heart is the Vancouver band's second album, and in 2020 "Hayloft," "Arms Tonite," "Wrecking Ball" and "Burning Pile" all went viral on TikTok.
Some songs take the scenic route to the top. Ryan Guldemond wrote every song here for the Vancouver band's second album, and twelve years later a whole new generation found them on their phones. Few Canadian indie albums have had a second life quite like it. Videos for "O My Heart," "Body of Years" and "Hayloft" helped introduce the band the first time around.
Guldemond's twitchy guitar and yelping hooks trade off with the harmonies of Molly Guldemond and Debra-Jean Creelman, with Ali Siadat on drums and Jeremy Page on bass and clarinet. Howard Redekopp produced, engineered and mixed it. "Hayloft" is a breathless farmyard drama, "Arms Tonite" sways, "Body of Years" and the title track snap with nervous energy, and cello, trumpet and violin pop up in the corners.
Molly Guldemond also designed the artwork, and the band later wrote "Hayloft II" as a sequel. When a song gets a second part thirteen years on, you know it made a good first impression.
