About the album

Modern Baseball always had a sense of humour about their own heartbreak, and MOBO Presents: The Perfect Cast is the proof: a 2015 EP dressed up as a straight-to-video franchise, with songs called "The Waterboy Returns," "Revenge of the Nameless Ranger" and "Alpha Kappa Fall of Troy the Movie Part Deux (2 Disc Director's Cut)." Billing this as a "30th Anniversary" edition a decade after the fact feels entirely in keeping with the bit. It landed between You're Gonna Miss It All and Holy Ghost, and catches the band at a creative peak, loose and funny and still capable of wrecking you in three minutes flat.

This expanded version digs into the year around it. Alongside the original songs ("Infinity Exposed," "The Thrash Particle" and "...And Beyond" included), you get live takes recorded at Exit/In and The Wonder Bar, plus versions of "Revenge of the Nameless Ranger," "The Thrash Particle" and "Alpha Kappa" from the band's online sessions, which feel like hanging out in somebody's living room with the amps turned up. For anyone who still thinks emo is at its best when it can laugh at itself, this is a lovely piece of the puzzle, and a fine excuse to shout along in your kitchen.

On Lame-O, an expanded reissue of the 2015 EP.
