Kenny Dorham's lyrical 1959 quartet album Quiet Kenny, with Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor: "Lotus Blossom," "My Ideal" and "Alone Together."
Quiet Kenny is a beautiful showcase for Kenny Dorham's warm, singing trumpet tone, and one of the loveliest small-group jazz records of its era.
Trumpeter Kenny Dorham played with Charlie Parker, Art Blakey and Max Roach, but on Quiet Kenny he steps into the spotlight backed by a dream rhythm section: Tommy Flanagan on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums.
His own "Lotus Blossom" opens with a gently swinging Latin feel, "My Ideal" and "Old Folks" are tender, beautifully played ballads, "Alone Together" glows, and "Blue Spring Shuffle" and "Mack the Knife" swing easily.
