Why you'll love it

About the album

Jóhannsson built Orphée on the Orpheus myth, from Ovid to Jean Cocteau's film, and on his own move from Copenhagen to Berlin. He called it "an oblique reflection on personal change."

Piano, strings, organ and shortwave radio recordings move from darkness toward light. The American Contemporary Music Ensemble and a string orchestra conducted by Anthony Weeden play alongside him.

"Orphée is both more intimate than some of his larger works"
Heather Phares, AllMusic
