The Airplane's first album for its 60th anniversary, as a blue marble 2LP set for Record Store Day Black Friday. Only 2,200 copies exist, and a second LP adds bonus tracks.
Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Signe Toly Anderson and Skip Spence recorded Takes Off in Hollywood in early 1966. It is the only Airplane album with Anderson and Spence; Grace Slick joined soon after.
Balin and Anderson's harmonies carry It's No Secret and Come Up The Years. RCA forced changes to Let Me In and Run Around, and the uncensored versions later surfaced as bonus tracks.
"Marty Balin and Signe Anderson's vocal harmonies are impeccable"
David Harris, Mojo-Navigator
