Jay-Z: The Blueprint 3 (2LP, white marble vinyl) [ROC NATION]

Why you'll love it

A limited white marble 2LP with red labels and a printed insert. The Blueprint 3 debuted at No. 1 and broke the US record Jay-Z had shared with Elvis Presley. Kanye West produced much of it, and four of its singles, "Empire State of Mind" among them, won six Grammys.

About the album

The Blueprint 3 closed the trilogy in 2009. Jay-Z recorded much of it far from New York, at Avex Honolulu Studio in Hawaii, partly to keep it from leaking. Kanye West shaped a large share of the sound, with No I.D., Timbaland, The Neptunes and Swizz Beatz adding their own.

The guest list reads like a roll call of the moment: Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Drake, J. Cole, Kid Cudi and Young Jeezy. It yielded four singles: "D.O.A.," "Run This Town," "On to the Next One" and "Empire State of Mind."

"the ex-prexy's official comeback … is fairly superb. He brings it off because he is the best"
Robert Christgau, Consumer Guide (2009)
