About the album

The guest list on Shine reads like the hottest table at a very good party. Estelle, the British singer and rapper, made her second album for Homeschool Records and Atlantic, and brought in Kanye West, will.i.am, Mark Ronson, John Legend, Cee-Lo and Toronto's own Kardinal Offishall. Shine was the record that took her worldwide.

will.i.am produced "American Boy," a breezy duet with Kanye that became her breakthrough. "Wait a Minute (Just a Touch)" opened the campaign, "No Substitute Love" and "Come Over" bring reggae and soul flavours, "Magnificent" with Kardinal Offishall turned up in the film 21, and "Pretty Please (Love Me)" landed on the Sex and the City movie soundtrack. "American Boy" also picked up a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.

The album reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and the top ten of the US R&B/hip hop chart, and it went gold in the UK. Few records make Britain and Toronto sound like next-door neighbours, and this one does it with a wink.
