Now-Again brings the album back to vinyl after years out of print. Its rhythm tracks come from a shelved late-1960s project meant as the third Electric Prunes album for Reprise. Lou Rawls sings on Loved Boy, and Ras Kass raps on The Little Children.
Around the time of Songs Of Experience, David Axelrod cut rhythm tracks with Los Angeles session players (Earl Palmer on drums, Carol Kaye on bass, Howard Roberts and Pete Wyant on guitars) for the last part of a Reprise trilogy built on the Faust legend. The project stalled, and Axelrod kept the acetate.
Three decades on, after meeting Mo'Wax boss James Lavelle through his work with DJ Shadow, he wrote and recorded new orchestra and horn parts at Capitol Studios, and added two new pieces that look back on a life in music rather than a cursed bargain. Mo'Wax put the LP out in 2001; Egon sat in on those Capitol sessions.
On Now-Again (cat# NA5199).
