The Beach Boys' 1966 magnum opus routinely turns up in discussions of the greatest rock 'n' roll records of all time and that's hardly surprising, considering how stupendously ambitious and original the often-imitated-but-never-duplicated Pet Sounds still sounds today. No one could dismiss Brian Wilson et al. as a mere "surf-pop" band again after hearing this lavishly orchestrated and boldly experimental work.
