Mobile Fidelity's UltraDisc One-Step box cuts the album at 45 RPM across a 2LP set on 180g SuperVinyl, limited to 4,000 numbered copies and mastered by Krieg Wunderlich. Jagged Little Pill won five Grammys, including Album of the Year, and has sold more than 33 million copies.
Before Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette was an Ottawa dance-pop singer with two albums to her name in Canada. Then she moved to Los Angeles, met producer Glen Ballard, and the two of them started writing and experimenting together almost immediately. What came out of those sessions at Westlake in Hollywood was a whole new artist, angry and vulnerable at once, and impossible to ignore.
Ballard brought pop polish to Morissette's raw nerve, mixing guitars, drum machines and harmonica with hints of grunge and hip hop. "You Oughta Know" is a fury in four minutes, "Hand In My Pocket" and "Head Over Feet" are warm and wise, and "You Learn," which gave the album its title, and "Ironic" became singalongs for an entire generation. Morissette wrote every lyric, and her voice swings from a whisper to a howl within a single verse.
In Canada it went double diamond, making her the first Canadian artist to manage it. MoFi's one-step process skips two stages of the usual plating, which is to say this pressing has fewer middlemen than most of our supply chains.
