An Indie Exclusive Eco Mix coloured LP of Bleeds, the 2025 album from Asheville band Wednesday.
An Indie Exclusive Eco Mix pressing, so the colour varies from copy to copy. It's the band's sixth album, Pitchfork gave it 8.7 and Metacritic has it at 88.
Wednesday make the kind of music that sounds like a pickup truck with the windows down and the radio stuck somewhere between a country station and a noise show. Bleeds is the follow-up to Rat Saw God, and frontwoman Karly Hartzman calls it that record's "spiritual successor," the album that captures what the band was "supposed to sound like." They cut it at Drop of Sun in Asheville, North Carolina, with Alex Farrar producing again, and MJ Lenderman is right there on lead guitar in the studio.
The singles came thick and fast: "Elderberry Wine," "Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)," "Pick Up That Knife" and "Bitter Everyday," songs that swing from tender to full-on squall without ever losing the plot. Hartzman's writing is as vivid as ever, full of sharp little details that stick with you long after the needle lifts. NME praised its "hard-won catharsis and thrilling noise," PopMatters and Uncut each gave it a 9, and it reached No. 3 on the UK Americana chart. Twelve songs in under 37 minutes, and some of the best Southern rock of recent years, from a band that sounds like nobody else.
On Dead Oceans, first out in 2025.
