About the album

There was a time, not that long ago, when Tate McRae was best known in Calgary as the kid who danced really, really well. Then came the songs, and then came So Close To What, her third album, which arrived in February 2025 and promptly debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 177,000 units in its first week (71,000 of those actual sales, which in the streaming age is kinda remarkable). It went to No. 1 in Canada too, and in Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and a handful of other places for good measure.

The singles did the heavy lifting on the way in: "It's OK I'm OK" debuted at No. 20 on the Hot 100 and became the first ever No. 1 on Billboard's new Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, "Sports Car" came in at No. 21, and "2 Hands" climbed to No. 22 on the Canadian Hot 100. Producers including Ryan Tedder, Ilya and Blake Slatkin keep everything sleek and sharp, and McRae sings it all with a cool, slightly dangerous confidence. The album has gone Platinum in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia and 3x Platinum in Canada, and Rolling Stone put it on its list of the best albums of 2025. If you want the moment a hometown star became a global one, this is the LP.

On RCA, first out in 2025.
