The Rainbow Goblins (虹伝説, Niji Densetsu, literally “Legend of the Rainbow”) is the ninth studio album by Japanese musician, producer, and composer Masayoshi Takanaka, released by Kitty Records on March 10, 1981.

Inspired by Italian artist Ul de Rico’s illustrated book of the same name, Takanaka conceived the album as a fully realized musical interpretation of its story and imagery. Drawing influence from progressive rock groups such as King Crimson and Pink Floyd, he combined his distinctive guitar playing with elaborate arrangements, atmospheric textures, and vivid soundscapes that mirror the book’s fantastical narrative. The result is one of Takanaka’s most ambitious, cinematic, and imaginative works.
