Dub Specialist was the banner for a groundbreaking series of dub LPs released by Studio One throughout the 1970s — a golden era for Jamaican music innovation. Each limited-edition record captured the raw, hypnotic essence of dub, mixed down by a rotating cast of Studio One’s finest engineers, including Sylvan Morris, Syd Bucknor, and Overton “Scientist” Brown.

Guiding the sessions was the visionary producer, sound system pioneer, and musical architect Clement “Coxsone” Dodd — the man behind the Studio One empire. Under his watchful ear, the Dub Specialist series became a laboratory of rhythm and reverb, shaping the sound of roots reggae and influencing generations to come.

The story of Dub Specialist came to a close when Dodd left the legendary Brentford Road studio for the United States at the decade’s end — but its echo still reverberates through the foundations of reggae and dub music today.
